LTE is a 4G mobile communications standard that allows users with LTE-capable devices to access data speeds up to 10x faster than 3G speeds. This means faster loading on your social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, less buffering on your favorite video and music streaming apps like YouTube and Spotify, and faster downloads when downloading your favorite apps.
As a valued customer, there's no additonal cost to receive these faster speeds; however, there are a few requirements to access our LTE network:
- Have an active cellular data plan
- Have an LTE-capable device
- Be in an available service area with LTE coverage
- Update the network settings in your device to allow LTE (iPhone / Android)
Because you're able to access more data more quickly, you may see an increase in the amount of data you're using - but no need to panic, most customers only see a 25%-35% increase on average. Just as you did on 3G, use Wi-Fi when available to achieve similar speeds and performance while also saving battery power and avoiding overages. And because we want to make sure you're aware of your current usage, we'll still continue to notify you via text once you've used 80% and 100% of the data included in your plan.
Setting your phone to prefer Wi-Fi hotspots is a great money-saving approach to mobile data usage and can help you save on data charges while roaming. Did you know approximately 50% of all mobile data usage nationwide takes place on Wi-Fi networks?
With all this extra speed and enhanced functionality comes more power consumption and the potential for higher data usage. Check out these links for battery saving tips and our top rated data usage monitoring apps!
